2 John
The book of 2 John, likely written by the apostle John referring to himself as "the elder," was addressed to a church symbolically called "the lady" and its members as her children. The author wrote to warn against the spread of false teachings, which denied foundational truths about Jesus. Pleased to hear that some members were walking in the truth, he encouraged the church to remain steadfast in love and obedience to God’s commands. He warned them not to support or welcome false teachers, cautioning specifically against those who deny the incarnation of Jesus Christ, describing them as antichrists. He warned the church to remain vigilant and not lose what they had worked for but to hold firm to the teachings of Christ. Anyone who does not continue in this teaching does not have a relationship with God. John expressed a desire to visit the church in person to deepen their joy and also conveyed greetings from the children of a sister church, chosen by God.
